Leningradsky Metallichesky Zavod
Founded in
1857.

On December 20, 1857, Emperor Alexander II approved the Articles of Association for the St. Petersburg Metal Works Company. This date is considered the plant’s founding. Throughout its history, LMZ has pioneered turbine construction: The most powerful turbines in Europe and the world were first developed and manufactured at our enterprise and earned international recognition. For every 10 turbines in the world, one was manufactured by LMZ. In addition to the power industry, the plant has also contributed to developing the architectural image of St. Petersburg – the metal structures that LMZ manufactured were used to construct the Church of the Savior on Blood, the Mariinsky Theater, the Bolsheokhtinsky Bridge, the Hermitage, the Conservatory of the Botanical Garden and other sights around the city. A significant event in the plant’s history was helping prepare for the launch of the first manned spaceflight. The "space mission of machine builders" was to create a launch facility for Yuri Gagarin's rocket.

Today, LMZ includes four separate production complexes: turbine production (Kalininsky District), blank production Turboatomgaz (New Devyatkino, Leningrad Region), turbine blade production (Nevsky District), and half-speed turbine shop (Metallostroy Industrial Area, Kolpinsky District).

Leningradsky Metallichesky Zavod manufactures turbines and auxiliary equipment for hydraulic, thermal, and nuclear power plants.

Electrosila Plant
Founded in
1898.

On April 15, 1898, Emperor Nicholas II approved the Articles of Association of the Joint Stock Company of the Russian Electrotechnical Plant "Siemens Halske" in St. Petersburg. In 1922, the plant received its historical name "Electrosila". The plant was crucial in establishing and developing the domestic energy industry. It was here that the Scientific and Technical School of Russian Electrical Engineering began to take shape, whose experts implementated the GOELRO plan by developing the first domestic hydro generators for the Volkhovskaya HPP and turbine generators for the Gomel and Omsk TPPs. Later on, the plant continued to increase generator production capacity and expand the equipment range for the demands of shipbuilding, the nuclear-powered fleet, metallurgy, mining, chemical, and other industries.

Today the enterprise produces generators for hydraulic, steam, and gas turbines; traction motors; and complete set drives and large electric machines.

Electrosila includes two stand-alone production complexes: generator production (Moskovsky District) and an electrical equipment shop (Metallostroy Industrial Zone, Kolpinsky District).
