Leningradsky Metallichesky Zavod (LMZ) has successfully completed testing the prototype for a domestic half-speed turbine with a capacity of 1255 MW. Assimilating this technology meant that LMZ is the only enterprise in the world that manufactures powerful steam turbines in both full-speed and half-speed at this time.
Based on prior experience creating powerful full-speed steam turbines and advanced achievements in scientific fields, Power Machines has been managing a project to develop and manufacture a half-speed turbine plant with a capacity of 1255 MW for several years. The company has consistently implemented a series of research and developments, experimental testing for new units on bench-scale and full-scale testing units, and pre-production engineering.
To produce innovative equipment, Power Machines has built and commissioned a state-of-the-art high-tech manufacturing facility to produce power equipment with a capacity of 500 MW, including half-speed turbine units for nuclear power plants with a capacity greater than 1200 MW with the possibility of expanding the product line to a capacity of 1800 MW. Investments into the construction and fit-out for this facility amounted to approximately 7 billion rubles.
The new generation of high-speed turbines with a capacity of 1255 MW was designed and developed by the employees at the Turbina special design bureau of LMZ, observing the VVER-TOI* innovative project requirements, as well as complying with the requirements and accepting support from the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom.
Today, it is considered one of the most promising in the world – the characteristics of the main assemblies will allow future machine manufacturing, which will be applicable in a turbine plant with a unit capacity in the range of 1600-1800 MW.
